Dear Parents, Sept. 1, 2026
My name is Debbie Wiechert (DW) and I am the School Social Worker at Meadow Ridge Elementary. I’m writing to tell you about our “Bites 2 Go” program. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, this program provides extra food for the weekend to students in need. It originated at Meadow Ridge 18 years ago and has expanded to include every school in Spokane County! Having enough food to eat has been linked to better grades, attendance, and behavior, so for the students and families who need a little extra help, this program is amazing.
The “Bites 2 Go” program is completely free, confidential, voluntary, and lasts as long as needed. With the cost of things rising, and the amount of food kids eat, it is my hope that this program will help our Meadow Ridge families feel supported and nurtured. Basically, students will receive a child friendly bag of food each Friday to supplement their food at home over the weekend. 2nd Harvest Food Bank supplies the food, Timberview Church pays for and delivers it, and we put it in the kiddos’ backpacks when they’re out at recess. Over Spring and Winter Breaks, extra food is provided to families. I have taken several steps to ensure this program remains confidential and discreet, and the feedback I have received has been overwhelmingly positive.

OR...simply complete the following information and return it to school. You can expect this program to begin September 11, 2026. Please feel free to add or remove your child’s name at any time. Simply email me with the request.
